At SO4, environmental management is a core part of how we operate, aligning with our commitment to sustainable development and responsible resource extraction. We are stewards of the land we work on, with our operations centred around the extraction and processing of naturally occurring brine from Lake Way.
The SO4 operation is among the lowest-emission methods of producing commercial SOP. It employs a brine-based production technique that cuts emissions by over a third compared to the Mannheim process, which currently supplies around 40% of the world's SOP demand. Our environmental management practices are guided by a robust Environmental Management System (EMS) that supports compliance with regulatory requirements and promotes continuous improvement across key focus areas including water conservation, biodiversity protection, and waste minimisation.
We actively monitor and manage our environmental impacts through the implementation of comprehensive management plans. These management plans incorporate the requirements of state legislation and define outcome-based provisions and contingency actions to be implemented in the event that an environmental outcome is not being met.
Biodiversity performance is measured against environmental outcomes and reported as part of our annual reporting requirements to key stakeholders. Our team works closely with Traditional Owners, regulators, and environmental specialists to ensure our activities respect and protect the unique ecosystems of the Goldfields region. At SO4, we are not only committed to meeting our obligations, but to setting a high standard for environmental responsibility in the potash industry.
